The Interview

Personality: Jayson, as he prefers to be called, is a prototypical aristocrat born into one of the most notoriously wealthy families of San Francisco.  That, right there, can give foresight into the type of person Jayson really is.  He is narcissistic, but who wouldn’t be if they were in his shoes.  He is vain, though he would describe it as “becoming the demands of his level of living”.  He looks down his nose at those mentally weaker than himself.  Though, he also would think that those financially or intellectually weaker than him fall under the same category of mental weakness.

Though he thinks so much of himself and so little of others, he is able to hide it well through his charisma and mock-civility.  He is looked at by others as a beacon of high society.  He was taught at a young age all manners and guidelines of living a polite, distinguished position.  He receives his friends and family well, as well as his enemies even better.  Overall, he keeps the manners of complaisance, consideration, and properness.  But this act that he portrays is lost often as those who know him too well tend to corrupt his name.

To those who keep up a mocking-civil persona towards him, they see him for how he truly is.  Jayson is manipulative as he courteous.  While he is a beacon for high-society, he is also a beacon of self-maintenance.  He will do whatever it takes to stay alive.  Because after his death, what good is his name to him?  This characteristic comes in handy most often when Jayson is forced to change into his demonic self.  While he is deceitful, he is able to hide his less-than-altruistic intentions through charisma and quick talking.

History:

Jayson Matheson was born in a dirty, grimy cave somewhere in the matrix of the Underworld.  His name, therefore, was given demonically; hence his birth name is Balthazar.  However, Jayson despises that name.  It was given to him to honor the great Balthazar who also went by Cole Turner.  But Jayson wasn’t impressed.  He found the honor his name bestows as tacky, not to mention, pretentious.  So as long as he could keep it up, Jayson went by his human given name, Jayson Matheson. 

Jayson’s aristocratic upbringing was thanks to his father.  Though he was a slightly above average assassin for the dark powers that be, Marcoven Matheson was an impeccable businessman.  He was responsible for some of the most notorious and lucrative business deals of the last half century.  Jayson’s mother, Darienne, was also a demon, though she tried to get away from the path of assassin.  Instead, she was hired as a spy for lucrative upper level demons.

So, as a teenager, Jayson was seldom allowed in the Underworld.  His mother, now notorious for being a spy, was on the hit list for many assassins.  And his father would not return either as he was afraid of being assigned to kill his wife.  Unfortunately, as Jayson turned 18, the dark powers that be decided that if neither one were to be useful as agents against Good, then they were to be killed.  And so they were.  With their death, Jayson found infinite wealth, and disdain for evil, as well as his natural disdain for good.  This, ultimately, put him in a limbo, fighting for survival and nothing else. 

Since then, Jayson has taken to his aristocratic duties well.  He works for a prestigious stock broker company.  He maintains his family name as well as he can to those who do not wish to destroy him.  Though, in the demon community, there are those who wish to punish him as they punished his parents for his indifference to his demonic duties.

Weaknesses: Jayson’s strengths are also, naturally, his weaknesses.  His inconsideration for others often puts him on the wrong end of things.  While he has many acquaintances and people he can deal with, he has no friends, or anyone close to him.  This is predominately because no one can find it within themselves to trust him.  He is the kind of person who you invite to dinner, but you don’t take an eye off of him.  So Jayson is often alone, maybe not physically but emotionally.  As he puts on his aristocratic persona, and even as he is consumed by his demonic one, he is starting to lose himself in the emptiness that is taking over his conscience.  Therefore, his biggest weakness is himself.
